The Application Procedure

Fresh induction to the graduate program is done twice a year in the fall and spring semesters. Applications are invited for admission to the spring 2017 graduate programs leading to MS and PhD degrees. 

Apply online before 16 November 2016. The admission test and interviews will be held on 1 December 2016. Classes will start from 9 January 2017.

Admission Requirements

The following materials are required for admission:

  1.  Complete the online application form. 
  2.  Print and fill the admit card. Click here for the Admit Card.
  3.  Three letters of recommendation signed by the referees who are qualified to vouch for the applicant’s academic record and performance. Click here for the  Recommendation Letter.
  4.  Attested copies of degrees and certificates along with Official transcripts/DMC of all undergraduate and graduate work completed.
  5. Copy of NTS GAT-Subject / GRE-Subject Result Card (if any).  
  6. Attested copy of CNIC/Passport
  7.  Four recent passport size color photographs.
  8.  One-page summary outlining the applicant’s previous research and/or his/her practical experience. He/she should also indicate his/her academic and research interest at GIK Institute and work interest after getting his/her degree.
  9.  Original receipt of the amount Rs. 4,000/- (nonrefundable) drawn on any online branch of Habib Bank Ltd. A/C No. 19790000085901.

The filled in application form along with the above mentioned supporting documents/materials must reach the Graduate Admissions Office, GIK Institutte, Topi before the closing date. An application which is late, incomplete, unaccompanied by any supporting document/material or application fee will not be processed. Applicants who do not fulfill the eligibility criteria for admission will not be shortlisted.

The admit card shall be dispatched at the mailing address provided by the candidates.

Eligibility and Assessment Criteria

MS Degree Program

  • Graduates in Engineering, Sciences and Mathematics from HEC recognized institutions, with a minimum of sixteen years of education (minimum 130 credit hours) in the relevant discipline.
  • First class (minimum 60% marks) throughout the academic career.
  • Minimum 50% cumulative score in NTS GAT-Subject/GRE-Subject Test. Or candidates have to pass the GIKI Admission Test.

PhD Degree Program

  • Minimum CGPA of 3.00 at MS/MPhil.
  • Other conditions as for MS degree Program.   
  • Minimum 60% cumulative score in NTS GAT-Subject/GRE-Subject Test. Or candidates have to pass the GIKI Admission Test.  * HEC conditions apply

Admission Test and Interview

Admission test for different disciplines/programs (similar to GRE subject type) to be conducted by the GIK Institute in the following topics/subjects. Short-listed candidates in the written test will have to appear for interivew on the same day for final selection.

Transfer with Advanced Standing

A maximum of 9 credit hours of graduate work done at some PEC accredited and HEC recognized Institution may be transferred with the recommendation of the faculty, provided that;

  • The work fits into a logical program for the degree
  • The transfer is approved by the office of graduate studies
  • A minimum of grade B has been earned.
